The 2020 Design & Construction Week featuring the co-located shows NAHB International Builders Show (IBS) and the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) was bustling with crowds spread out across the entire Las Vegas Convention Center and lots from January 21-23. More than 90,000 design and construction professionals were in attendance to see the latest design, building and storage and organization products from the more than 2,000 exhibitors occupying more than one million square feet of indoor and outdoor space. Following are a few of the new trends and products seen on the show floor: California Closets was a new exhibitor at the co-located Builder’s Show and KBIS. The company partnered with LG Electronics, manufacturer of the LG Styler, a steam clothing care product, to showcase the latest model using California Closets’ new Paxton walk-in closet system. The company also had a closet display in the Net Zero Home and showcased its interative mobile showroom in the outdoor Show Village. The Container Store was another first-time exhibitor. The company, looking to ramp up its exposure to the trades, offered attendees a look at its professional closet organization services featuring its four exclusives lines – Elfa Classic, Elfa Décor, Avera and Laren. Along with displaying upgrades to its product lines, Organized Living also introduced Select – a traditional built-in storage system with furniture-grade wood. As part of the company’s Closet Selector program for builders, the system can be offered to homebuyer’s as a standard or upgrade option. ClosetMaid celebrated its 55th anniversary during show and a number of the company’s executive team were on hand to toast its long history of manufacturing and marketing closet and garage storage and home organization systems. Its 50x70 foot immersive booth showcased its newest and most popular products, including: ShelfTrack EVO, MasterSuite, Express Shelf and Wire Shelving Systems. Blue Moon Global, Inc., dba Oz Cabinetry, an Orlando, Florida, cabinet manufacturer and wholesaler with production plants in Brazil and China, showed its line of modular closet systems, which were launched last year. Southern California-based Nextar, a ready-to-assemble cabinet and closet manufacturer/distributor, showed a wide array of American and European style cabinet finishes. The company was also doing a test launch of its antique white finish. Hans Krug, which offers European styling and cabinet options with a multitude of finishes and material combination, displayed a floating closet system along with its other contemporary cabinet options. Interni Cucine, an Italian kitchen cabinet manufacturer, prominently featured its new closet line which was launched last year based on customer demand. The company offers five door styles, 20 finishes and more than 150 accessories. It has distribution centers in Fort Lauderdale and Santa Ana, California. Wellborn Cabinet discontinued its closet line citing lack of interest from dealers. However, the company said they can still provide closet components upon request. The company displayed a master suite collection which included a kitchenette with areas to store coffee, a microwave, wine cubbies and shelving for snacks. Other features of the master suite included the floating vanity and drawer storage options. A pet station combined with the laundry room was still prominently featured in the booth as well as a variety of under stair hidden storage options. Wellborn representatives said the company is planning a push into more contemporary and frameless styles and will incorporate more smart home technology and add more colors. A highlight of Hafele America’s booth was its display on Micro-Living Design. The innovative design and product philosophy include Häfele wall bed hardware, wardrobe lifts, flap fittings, TV lifts, TAG Hardware’s Symphony Wall Organizer, and much more – all shown in a multi-functional small space. Rev-A-Shelf, along with showing its cabinet organization and lighting products, also promoted its acquisition of Sidelines to attendees highlighting accessories such as wire baskets and liners, closet rods, ironing boards and more. In addition to meeting suppliers and seeing product demos throughout the three-day show, attendees of the 2020 Builders Show and KBIS were able to network with peers and attend many of the education sessions, which were led by experts on a wide range of industry topics.
