Learn how to make an essential oil recipe organizer. This is a Dollar Tree DIY organization idea that's very simple to make. Use it to organize recipes from an essential oil recipe box like Simply Earth's monthly box.
I've been making natural essential oil recipes for many years now. To say that I've amassed a few recipes is an understatement.
Until now, I had them save on Pinterest, posted here, and several notebooks filled with recipes. I couldn't find a recipe if I needed it.
I actually made and sold recipe boxes on Etsy for over 10 years. I stopped selling earlier this year because the fun had gotten sucked out of selling.
Even though I made and sold 100s of recipe boxes, I never made a DIY recipe box for myself for my essential oil recipes. When I was looking for Dollar Tree craft ideas at the store, I found an adorable little crate that would be perfect for a DIY wooden recipe box.
I knew it would make a nice essential oil recipe organizer. I also made some printables to use because I have to make everything extra pretty (hence the blog Everything Pretty, right).
Let's learn how to make a recipe box to store essential oil recipes or food recipes.
How to Organize Essential Oil Recipes
I've been getting the Simply Earth essential oil recipe box for years now. Each month, there are 6 recipe cards for that month's recipes.
I had them in a stack in a small drawer with my supplies. Spoiler alert: I could never find the recipe I needed!
So I went to my favorite craft store and looking for Dollar Tree DIY organization ideas to make a Dollar Tree recipe box for my essential oil recipes.
I love that store for Dollar Tree DIY organization. It saves me a ton of money, and I like to be creative with my organization anyway.
Dollar Tree Supplies
I used this adorable little Dollar Tree crate to make this Dollar Tree recipe box. It's the perfect size for 3x5 recipe cards.
The design was a little bit too big to fit between the grooves on the crate, so I also grabbed some little chalkboard signs to use on the crate. The chalkboard tags aren't on the Dollar Tree site, but you can also find them on Amazon.
The Dollar Tree crate can be hard to find! I ended up ordering it from their website and having it shipped.
You can also get items shipped to the store to save money, but you might have to order a case. Find some friends to see if they want to split them or put them on Marketplace.
Or make a few DIY wooden recipe box crafts to give as gifts. Recipe boxes make great bridal shower gifts.
Essential Oil Recipe Cards to Organize Recipes
Once I made the essential oil recipe organizer, I had to fill it up. I made several printables for my Dollar Tree recipe box and printable recipe card dividers.
I have several of the printables in my Etsy shop, but the dividers are available for free. Just enter your email, and you'll get them in your email right away.
Print them on cardstock, cut, and use them to organize your Dollar Tree recipe box.
I left the dividers blank so you can organize your DIY recipe box how you want to. For mine, I made the following tabs:
- Diffuser blends
- Roller blends
- Skin care recipes
- Hair care recipes
- Cleaning recipes
- Face recipes
Although I am adding my Simply Earth recipe cards, I have plenty of other recipes to add to my Dollar Tree recipe box. I made these printable essential oil recipe cards to print to add to my essential oil recipe organizer.
And since I am always looking up essential oil and carrier oil dilution rates, I also made an essential oil dilution chart to add to the box.
This has dilution ratios and conversions. Now you will have how many drops are in a teaspoon or ounce right in your essential oil recipe box.
Finally, I have essential oil properties note cards. I use these to keep track of my oils and their properties for aromatherapy, hair, and skin.
I can not tell you how many times I need an oil for a specific purpose and couldn't remember which oils are best. Now, I can just browse through my cards and find the right oils to use.

Add the succulent rub on to the painted tag.
Use hot glue to attach the chalkboard tag to the painted recipe box.
Print the dividers and cards on cardstock. Cut out. Use to make an essential oil recipe organizer.
I really like the DIY recipe box to organize my recipes. I also have a printable essential oil binder that I use to track my inventory and favorite blends.
